Position Summary:
  • Responsible for all aspects of the cross-country program, including but not limited to practice and preparation, recruiting and retention of student-athletes, hiring and supervision of assistant coaches, budget management, fundraising, scheduling, public relations, community service and strict adherence to all NJCAA, OCCAC and College regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:
  • Directs the planning, organizing, scheduling, and coaching of the cross-country program.
  • Provides leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic department of student-athletes.
  • Directs the cross-country staff in the preparation and analysis of opponent teams, and analyzes meet statistics and tactical data of opponents.
  • Counsels team members in academic, disciplinary, and personal matters.  Consults College administration and Faculty for resolution of problems as required.
  • Assigns geographical area to and supervises the cross-country staff in the recruitment of new athletes.
  • Determines fiscal requirements and prepares budgetary recommendations. Monitors, verifies, and reconciles expenditures of budgeted funds.
  • Directs various personnel functions including but not limited to hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers, and vacation schedules.
  • Develops, coordinates, and publicizes any camp programs and fundraising activities.
  • Works effectively with students and challenges students appropriately with an acceptance level of civility and discourse.
  • Employs appropriate assessment techniques to measure student performance in achieving course goals and objectives.  Collects, reports, and maintains assessment documentation.
  • Represents the Athletic Department in professional, civic, charity, and alumni events.
  • Supports the mission and strategic priorities of the program, division, and College.  Actively participates in community organizations, service groups, or events sponsored by the campus for the community.
  • This position will include frequent evenings and weekends.
  • Performs other position-related duties as assigned.
Program Area Responsibilities (as applicable):
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; and resolving problems.
Education and/or Work Experience:
  • Associate’s Degree preferred.
  • Two years work experience in coaching in higher education or high school levels required.
Other Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to effectively communicate one-on-one and in small groups
  • Ability to develop and complete projects and tasks without continued direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student and community population.
  • Effective verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work a combination of days/evening/weekend schedules.
  • Proven record of integrity and leadership.
  • Willingness to advance the goals of the Athletics Department, including fundraising.
  • A commitment to the academic success and graduation of student-athletes.
  • Knowledge of international/nationwide/statewide recruiting is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations (as applicable):
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
