RESIDENT ASSISTANT THE LANDINGS - 2026-2027
Position Description
Each floor at The Landings is supported by a Resident Assistant (RA) who functions as a student assistant and resource for the residents. The RAs are responsible for helping to maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning while also building community with the residents. Throughout the year, the RAs will plan educational, cultural, and social activities that are designed to build positive communities on campus. Additionally, the RA provides a great variety of services from mediating roommate conflicts to initiating needed maintenance or repairs. You as an RA will be the first point of contact whenever residents have any questions. Each night, a team of RAs are on duty to make sure that the halls and floors are safe.
Duties
- Create positive, strong relationships (not just between themselves and their residents, but among all residents as well), provide resources, build community and engage residents through interactions.
- Establish a living-learning environment on the floor and within the building through role modeling and involvement.
- Participate in the development of floor/building activities and encourage students to become active participants.
- Must work a minimum of two hours each week at the front desk.
- Perform all administrative tasks as defined by the Manager or Assistant Manager of Housing and Student Relations. Tasks may include; posting informational flyers on the floor, attending weekly one-on-one meetings, distributing and collecting surveys, completing weekly reports, assisting with events and any community development.
- Attend a bi-weekly staff meeting.
- Remain in the hall until the building is officially closed and/or return early to open during holidays and breaks, as determined by the Manager or Assistant Manager of Housing and Student Relations.
- Understand, explain, enforce and support Landings Housing Handbook and College policies and procedures.
- Maintain a standard of personal conduct commensurate with responsibilities. The Resident Assistant is expected to set an example both in knowing and abiding by all applicable laws and College policies.
- Respond to student concerns and crisis situations on an on-call rotational basis.
- Create bulletin boards and door decorations as directed by the Manager or Assistant Manager of Housing and Student Relations.
- Attend and actively participate in the Fall RA Training (August) and the Spring RA Training (January).
- Complete all RA staff development requirements as defined by the Housing Office.
Minimum Qualifications
- The RA must be registered and scheduled for classes at Terra State Community College.
- The RA must always hold and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above.
- The RA must have lived at The Landings for at least one semester.
- The RA may not be on Student Conduct Probation at the time of hiring, or during employment.
- The RA may not currently be on Resident or College Student Conduct Probation or Academic Probation at the time of hiring, or during employment.
